چکیده

We investigated the use of the TARGET task analysis tool for use in the development of rulebased expert systems. We found TARGET to be very helpful in the knowledge acquisition process. It enabled us to perform knowledge acquisition with one knowledge engineer rather than two. In addition, it improved communication between the domain expert and knowledge engineer. We also found it to be useful for both the rule development and refinement phases of the knowledge engineering process. Using the network in these phases required us to develop guidelines that enabled us to easily translate the network into production d e s . A significant requirement for TARGET remaining useful throughout the knowledge engineering process was the need to carefully maintain consistency between the network and the rule representations. Maintaining consistency not only benefited the knowledge engineering process, but also had significant payoffs in the areas of validation of the expert system and documentation of the knowledge in the system.

Facilitating tacit-knowledge acquisition within requirements engineering

Software maintenance represents one of the most challenging tasks for software engineers. This can be attributed to many problems related to how software applications are built. However, the lack of enough historical knowledge about legacy software projects is a major software maintenance issue. Though software documentation is heavily used to guide maintainers tasks, but it only cater for docu...

Software Creation: Using Specification and Description Language (SDL) for Capturing and Reusing Human Experts' Knowledge in Software Design

Conventional knowledge engineering techniques for acquiring experts’ knowledge can not produce quality knowledge due to improper knowledge documentation and informal knowledge acquisition method. We propose a method for knowledge acquisition based on documentation using Specification and Description Language (SDL). SDL is used to describe both the target system and the design process. The main ...

Acquisition M&S Community Sponsored M&S Project: Standardized Documentation for Verification, Validation, and Accreditation - A Status Report to the Systems Engineering Community

Using models and simulations that provide credible results in the systems engineering process is crucial to fielding defense weapon systems more effectively to the warfighter. Employing distributed, live-virtualconstructive synthetic environments that produce results that can be used with confidence is essential to support development and testing of interoperable systems for joint capabilities....

Concept Analysis And Terminology: A Knowledge-Based Approach To Documentation

The central concern of terminology, a component of the general documentation process, is concept analysis, an activity which is becoming recognized as fundamental as term banks evolve into knowledge bases. We propose that concept analysis can be facilitated by knowledge engineering technology, and describe a generic knowledge acquisition tool called CODE (Conceptually Oriented Design Environmen...
